Family Preservation Services

Family Preservation is a specialized program funded by the Erie County Office of Children and Youth.

It serves children and families referred by the Office of Children and Youth with the goal of

preventing the unnecessary placement of children outside of the home and assisting children who

are in foster care or other placements to return home while maintaining child safety as the highest

priority.

Family Preservation is an intensive, time-limited program that meets primarily with families in their own

homes. A variety of supportive services are provided to families. These include:

Supportive counseling

Parent education and training as well as enhancement of:

Problem-solving skills

Stress management

Conflict resolution

Coping strategies

Self-esteem building

Anger management

Case management and service linkages

Service coordination with other providers and in particular with the Office of Children

and Youth.

The Family Preservation Program participates in program evaluation by the Mercyhurst Civic Institute.
